TIME doesn’t seem to consider Republican presidential candidate and Ohio Gov. John Kasich influential this year.
The magazine released its annual list of the 100 most influential people on Thursday, and honorees include world leaders, politicians, artists and more. This year’s TIME list included all the remaining presidential candidates, except for Kasich. See what other politicians and commentators had to say about the four other candidates who were deemed influential leaders this year.
Sen. Amy Klobuchar (D-Minn.) on Hillary Clinton:

Rep. Renee Ellmers (R-N.C.) on Donald Trump:
“Sure, he’s confrontational, but his hard-nosed style is what has enabled him to turn a $1 million loan into billions and what has made him the likely Republican nominee for president of the United States.”
Political commentator Robert Reich on Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders: “It was an improbable candidacy: Bernie Sanders—a Jewish Vermont senator, self-described “democratic socialist,” Brooklyn native, political independent—running for the Democratic nomination for president against Hillary Clinton. Yet Sanders has proved more successful than anyone thought possible.” Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker on Texas Sen. Ted Cruz: “Ted Cruz is unique in politics today as he is actually doing the things in office that he said he would do. You see, he’d rather be respected by the voters across this country for getting things done than be loved by the politicians in Washington for playing the go-along-to-get-along game.”
