Kermit Gosnell, a Philadelphia doctor, has been charged with killing a woman and at least seven fetuses in an unlicensed, dangerously out-dated, late-term abortion clinic.
The fetuses were allegedly born alive and had their spinal chords cut with scissors by Gosnell or his staff under his direction
Philadelphia Inquirer Investigative Reporter Joe Slobodzian joined the Morning Joe crew on Monday to explain how the clinic flew under the radar for nearly a decade, and the gruesome details emerging from the case.
“We’re not talking about abortion here, we’re talking about murder, aren’t we?” msnbc’s Joe Scarborough asked.
The case has been under-covered by the mainstream media, because of its graphic, horrible content, Scarborough added. Slobodzian explained how the feds stumbled upon the clinic in 2010. “It’s a horrific case,” Slobodzian said. “In 2010, there’s a state-federal task force investigating prescription drug abuse. They go on a raid of his clinic at 30th and Lancaster and instead of drugs, they find a clinic providing late-term abortions. He’s eventually charged by a Philadelphia Grand Jury with seven counts of murder involving fetuses which were born alive and then killed by Dr. Gosnell, allegedly, with a pair of scissors snipping their spines. He’s also charged with one third-degree murder with a 41-year-old Virginia woman who came up for an abortion and was given too much Demerol, the sedative he used, by untrained staff and she died.” Get the full story below.
