On Monday, One World Trade Center became the tallest skyscraper in New York City, standing at just north of 1,250 feet. This is no small feat, of course.
New York Times photographer, Damon Winter, spent five days in July with the local ironworkers working on the building, capturing the progress.
The Times’ Lens blog is now displaying some of Winter’s incredible images from his time atop 1 WTC.
Winter captures the workers in their natural terrain high above Manhattan as they negotiate beams, have coffee breaks and carry buckets of bolts. The black and white images are pretty spectacular, and they offer us a rare glimpse of a crew of guys rebuilding lower Manhattan. Take a quick look!
