Here’s a man who needs no introduction.
Music legend Paul Simon dropped by Morning Joe today with Dr. Irwin Redlener to talk about the 25th anniversary of the Children’s Health Fund, a program offering at-risk children health care (as the organization’s web site describes). Simon will be playing a benefit for the organization on October 4 at Radio City with an incredible lineup including a lot of couples and families.
Rubén Blades and Luba Mason, Tina Fey and Jeff Richmond, Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson, Stevie Wonder and his daughter Aisha Morris are some of the names on the bill.
While I had him in the green room for a few short minutes, Simon talked to me about playing on the Andy Williams Show. “As kids,” he said. Man, here’s Paul Simon talking to me about playing the Andy Williams Show. Unbelievable.

And he also talked about seeing David Byrne and St. Vincent play the other night at Manhattan’s Beacon Theatre. As Simon tells it, he saw Byrne riding his bike in Manhattan, called out to him but Byrne didn’t hear him (probably best given he was riding a bike in Manhattan), but they caught up later over email and Byrne invited him to the gig. He could’ve talked about anything, and I would’ve been listening. It’s Paul Simon after all.
