Lawmakers unveiled a $1.1 trillion spending bill on Monday, boosting spending levels for the military and domestic problems, while keeping Obamacare spending at its current level.
The deadline for a new spending bill is midnight on Wednesday, when the government would run out of money, and a three-day funding extension is expected to pass through both chambers to ensure funding for the government.
Easing automatic sequestration cuts is an additional $45 billion budgeted for military and domestic problems, in addition to $85.2 billion that’s been budgeted for Afghanistan, but no additional funds have been budgeted for the implementation of Obamacare; in fact, a public health fund has been reduced so Health and Human Services can’t move money from there to pay for Obamacare exchanges.
Kentucky Republican Hal Rogers, the House’s Appropriations Committee Chairman, declared the deal a compromise, adding that “it reflects Republican priorities and holds the line on spending in many critical areas,” according to Politico.
From the Senate Appropriations Committee, Maryland Democrat Sen. Barbara Mikulski dubbed it an end to “shutdown, slowdown, slam-down politics.” The White House urged quick passage of the deal in both chambers.
