Gov. Rick Perry will tour a gun facility in Maryland on Wednesday as part of his nationwide tour to lure businesses to Texas.
A Perry aide confirmed to CNN that the Republican governor will tour the Beretta USA facility in Accokeek, Md., during his visit to the state. Beretta considered leaving Maryland earlier this year after Gov. Martin O’Malley pushed for, and ultimately signed, sweeping gun control measures.
Maryland is the latest Democratically-governed state Perry is targeting in his efforts to bring businesses into the Lone Star State. Earlier this year, Perry began running ads in California, Illinois, Connecticut, New York, and Missouri, that ran like negative political ads.
“I have a word of advice for employees frustrated by Illinois’s short-sighted approach to business: You need to get out while there’s still time,” Perry says in an ad from April. “The escape route leads straight to Texas, where limited government, low taxes and a pro-business environment are creating more jobs than any other state.”
