As the President heads to Newport News, Virginia to talk about the impact of sequester, several Virginia Republicans are lobbying their collegues to stop the cuts from happening.
Congressman Rob Wittman, R-Va., said on Jansing & Co., “I think that we have a pathway forward…I want to make sure we’re back at the table, putting these ideas there.”
According to the White House, Virginia would be among the states hit hardest by $85 billion dollars in harsh automatic cuts. Documents released by the White House about the specific impact in Virginia say up to 90,000 civilians could be furloughed from the Defense Department, and Army Base funds would be cut by $146 million with the Navy canceling maintenance on 11 ships.
Chris Jansing asked Wittman, “Your colleague Congressman Rigell has suggested, as Lindsey Graham has, that they might be open to revenue, Are you?” “Well, I want to make sure we look at the spending side of the equation. We already have $600 billion dollars in increased revenue, I want to make sure we look at the expenditure side.”
