Let me finish tonight with with this.
President Obama took charge tonight. I’ve said that.
What he needs to do is accept his duty to do it, and show it, across the board.
Most important, he needs to get the engine turning. If anyone watching thinks the unemployment rate is acceptable, I disagree with you. People who want to work should be put to work. I can’t think of a more important job for this president than to begin a national “push” for jobs.
Start with transportation, go to water, go to sewer, go to rapid rail. It’s time for the US to catch up to Europe and Asia and the rest of the economically-developed world. Go to France. Go to Asia. Go out there and see what’s happening with trains that go 300 miles an hour. We’ve got AmTrak. In most parts of the country we’ve got nothing. Let’s rebuild this country. Let’s get people to work doing it so we can stop diddling away our times over talking points.
