It didn’t go unnoticed that Rick Santorum’s endorsement of his one-time competitor Mitt Romney as the Republican nominee for president came buried in the 13th paragraph of a late-night email to supporters May 7.
Santorum dropped out of the Republican race for president about a month ago in early April when it became clear that Romney’s delegate lead would make it nearly impossible for his challengers to find a path forward. Michele Bachmann and Newt Gingrich also recently pledged support to Romney after dropping out of the GOP race.
Asked on Jansing & Co. today why Santorum’s endorsement seemed, well, subdued, Ezra Klein of the Washington Post responded:
Because Mitt Romney didn’t give him anything… he had nothing to offer Romney. Klein added that it’s still possible that the pair will campaign together as the general election approaches. Santorum is expected to appear on “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno” tonight, May 8.
