Today’s installment of campaign-related news items from across the country.
* There were all kinds of interesting primaries across five states yesterday, including in New Jersey, where Rep. Andy Kim won the Democratic U.S. Senate nomination, and Democratic Rep. Rob Menendez overcame a tough primary challenge.
* On a related note, Donald Trump endorsed Mendham Borough Mayor Christine Serrano Glassner in the Republicans’ U.S. Senate primary in New Jersey. She lost, despite the former president’s belief that his support translates to near-automatic primary victories.
* Speaking of the former president, Nikki Haley appeared on the presidential primary ballot in a couple of states yesterday, despite having ended her 2024 bid months ago. The former ambassador received nearly 9% support in New Mexico, while also winning the GOP primary in the District of Columbia with nearly 63% support.
* And speaking of Haley, on the heels of the former U.S. ambassador to the United Nations publicly declaring her intention to support Trump’s candidacy, the former president boasted on Newsmax about defeating Haley “very badly.” He also complained that she didn’t drop out of the race quickly enough.
* In Montana’s closely watched U.S. Senate race, both parties’ primaries went as expected, setting up an important contest between Democratic incumbent Sen. Jon Tester and Republican Tim Sheehy. * In an announcement that raised several eyebrows, Rep. Joe Wilson endorsed the primary rival to his fellow South Carolina Republican, Rep. Nancy Mace. It was a timely reminder that Mace is short on intraparty allies as she faces off against Catherine Templeton next week. * And Axios reported this morning that the National Democratic Redistricting Committee and the States Project — two influential Democratic groups in state-level elections — “are launching a multimillion-dollar effort this week to flip or hold state legislative chambers in Arizona, Michigan, New Hampshire, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin.”
