A conservative group released a new television ad hitting Sen. Mary Landrieu for her support of “Obama’s liberal activist judges.”
The 30-second ad from the Judicial Crisis Network hits the vulnerable Louisiana Democrat not just for her votes on judicial nominees but also her support of a controversial change to Senate filibuster rules last month. The change lowered the threshold for most judicial confirmations to a simple majority instead of a filibuster-proof 60 votes.
Landrieu “helped change rules to pack a key court with new liberal judges who will review Obamacare, the EPA, the IRS and agencies Barack Obama is using to push his unconstitutional job-killing agenda,” the ad says.
Landrieu’s campaign pointed out that many of the confirmation votes the group is hitting the Democrat for were bipartisan votes, and that the group had previously advocated for filibuster reform.
“Not only is this group attacking Sen. Landrieu for reaching across the aisle to confirm judges with bipartisan majorities, but they’re making yet another ridiculous claim that’s already been debunked as ‘false’ by a leading, non-partisan fact checker,” Landrieu campaign manager Adam Sullivan said in a statement. “JCN and the billionaire Koch brothers can keep wasting their money airing outright lies all they want, but Sen. Landrieu’s record of finding real solutions to challenges and fighting for the people of Louisiana is a matter of record and speaks for itself.” According to the Washington Post, JCN is spending six figures to air the ad statewide for two weeks. It’s the second ad from the group, who also targeted Democratic Arkansas Sen. Mark Pryor last month.
