The suspect in last year’s attacks in Paris has been charged with terrorist murders and using bombs and weapons, his lawyer said.
Salah Abdeslam was also charged with participation in a terror organization, and has been placed in provisional detention.
Officials said earlier Wednesday that Abdeslam had been extradited from Belgium to France to face charges. He had been in Belgian custody awaiting extradition for the spree that killed 130 people across Paris on Nov. 13, 2015. ISIS claimed responsibility for the attacks.

Abdeslam was on the run for nearly four months. Authorities finally captured him in Brussels, the Belgian capital, in March, just four days before suicide bombers attacked the Brussels airport and subway, killing more than 30 people. Authorities say Abdeslam backed out of a suicide mission at the last minute and fled to Belgium. His brother blew himself up in the Paris attacks. This story first appeared on NBCNews.com.
