The word dynasty is thrown around a lot these days in the world of sports, but if there was ever a program to which it truly applies it’s the women’s basketball program at the University of Connecticut. The team won its fourth consecutive championship on Tuesday night handily over Syracuse (82-51), but that doesn’t tell the whole story. Not only did they dominate this year’s NCAA tournament, they have won 11 titles overall under legendary coach Geno Auriemma, a record for any male or female program. And while there are some who think their unprecedented success – which includes a 75-game winning streak and six undefeated seasons – could be bad for the sport, for many others this team serves as an inspiration and an example of the personification of excellence. The next stop for them will eventually be the White House where President Obama once joked “they are certified to provide White House tours” because they have won the title so often.
