Today’s installment of campaign-related news items that won’t necessarily generate a post of their own, but may be of interest to political observers:
* It’s Election Day in New Jersey, where voters will fill a U.S. Senate vacancy. The final polls in the race show Cory Booker (D) leading Steve Lonegan (R) by 14 points, 22 points, or 10 points, depending on which you choose to believe.
* The Booker campaign got a late boost from President Obama, who released an endorsement video a few days ago.
* In an unfortunate accident, the official Twitter feed of the Republican National Committee accidentally encouraged voters to turn out yesterday for the race in New Jersey. The RNC later corrected the error.
* In Massachusetts’ U.S. House special election in the 5th district, state Sen. Katherine Clark won yesterday’s Democratic primary, and is seen as the heavy favorite in the general election in this deep “blue” district.
* In Virginia’s gubernatorial race, the latest poll from Judy Ford Wason Center for Public Policy at Christopher Newport University shows Terry McAuliffe (D) leading Ken Cuccinelli (R) by seven, 46% to 39%, with Libertarian Robert Sarvis third with 11%.
* In a fascinating twist, Virginia Democrats are so confident about the gubernatorial race, they’ve begun using Cuccinelli’s unpopularity to target other Republican candidates, including this new ad in the state Attorney General’s race. * A Pew Research Center poll released yesterday shows Democrats leading Republicans on the national generic ballot, 49% to 43%. * And in an unexpected development, Senate hopeful Alison Lundergan Grimes (D) outraised Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R) in Kentucky in the last quarter, $2.5 million to $2.3 million.
