For presidential hopeful Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX), a typical breakfast consists of bacon with a side of target practice.
In a new video by IJReview (the company behind the viral hit “How to Destroy Your Cell Phone with Lindsay Graham”), Cruz shows Americans how he prefers to wake up and cook breakfast.
“Few things I enjoy more than on weekends cooking breakfast with the family,” Cruz says. “Of course in Texas, we cook bacon a little differently than most folks.”
According to Cruz, the Texan way to make bacon consists of wrapping pieces around the nozzle of a “machine-gun,” covering them with tin foil, and firing off a few rounds at a target. At the end of the video, Cruz uses a fork to pick off and eat a small piece of bacon before giving his stamp of approval to the Texas delicacy.
The only problem? That’s not actually a machine gun that Cruz is using. MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow debunked this myth on her show, revealing that the gun was actually a semi-automatic AR-15 rifle. But whether it should be called “machine-gun” bacon or “semi-automatic” bacon, the video is yet another example of Cruz attempting to use the power of viral videos to attract potential voters in a crowded GOP primary field. Earlier this summer, he appeared in a video pretending to audition for various roles on “The Simpsons.”
