The wind up. The pitch. And it’s a strike!
101-year-old Kitty Cohen set a record on Sunday afternoon, becoming the oldest Canadian to ever throw a ceremonial first pitch at a Major League Baseball game. During the pregame, Cohen jogged to the mound, was handed the ball from the Blue Jays’ mascot, and nailed the first pitch to Blue Jays catcher Josh Thole.
Prior to walking out to the mound, the fit Cohen admitted to hoping not to fall in front of all of her family, friends, and Blue Jays players and fans. “I told my legs, don’t let me fall. I’ve got to walk like a young woman.”
The walk to the mound was an easy task for Cohen who has walked more than 260 kilometers over the past six years in the fight to find a cure for cancer. Her first pitch appearance was her latest effort to raise awareness.
