Prior to the first pitch of the Braves/Nationals double-header a moment of silence was taken to honor those who had fallen in the Navy Yard shooting on Monday. “Please join us for a moment of silence as we honor the lives lost and pay tribute to all of those affected to yesterday’s senseless act of violence,” the announcer at the Nationals Park said on the loud speaker.
As the Nationals took the field for batting practice and pre-game warm-ups they were sporting a patriotic look. Earlier on Tuesday four-star Admiral James Winnifeld, who is also the Vice Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, delivered blue and gold Navy caps to the players to wear in honor the victims of Monday’s shooting.
Fans were also encouraged to wear their blue and gold to the game, instead of the Nationals colors blue and red.
