Republicans in Congress have been fighting a losing battle for years to repeal the Affordable Care Act, but that’s not stopping congressional hopefuls from fighting against the health care law in their midterm election campaigns.
In a new campaign video, Alabama congressional candidate Will Brooke takes aim at the Affordable Care Act–literally.
“We’re down here to have a little fun and talk about two serious subjects: the Second Amendment and to see how much damage we can do to this copy of Obamacare,” Brooke says before loading a stack of papers into a pick-up truck donning a bumper sticker that reads: “I prefer the dangers of a limited government!”
Brooke then drives the truck out to a field where he mounts the stack of papers representing President Obama’s health care law, and fires at it with several different guns.
After inspecting the damage, Brooke moves on to destroy the papers in a wood chipper.
“We had some fun and knocked some holes in it, but we didn’t quite get the job done,” Brooke says. “Looks like we’ll have to resort to more extreme measures to get rid of Obamacare and replace it with a market-based solution.” Brooke isn’t the first candidate to literally take aim and fire at legislation in a campaign ad. In 2010, now-Senator Joe Machin fired at cap-and-trade legislation with a rifle to demonstrate his support for both the Second Amendment and for pro-coal legislation. Brooke is running in the GOP primary, which will take place in June, to replace retiring Rep. Spencer Bachus.
