President Obama’s State of the Union address ended in an emotional plea to Congress to reduce gun violence. The president started out by recognizing the parents of the Chicago teenager who was shot to death a week after performing at his Inauguration and told lawmakers, “They deserve a vote.” As people in the chamber rose to their feet, Obama continued to say, “Gabby Giffords deserves a vote. The families of Newtown deserve a vote. The families of Aurora deserve a vote. The families of Oak Creek and Tucson and Blacksburg, and the countless other communities ripped open by gun violence –- they deserve a simple vote.”
