A few weeks after Democratic strategist Hillary Rosen criticized Ann Romney for having “never worked a day in her life” (obviously Rosen was referring to the workplace), the wife of GOP presidential candidate Mitt Romney has apparently stepped in it herself.
During a speech last night at the Connecticut Republican Party’s Prescott Bush Awards Dinner in Stamford, the wife of GOP presidential candidate Mitt Romney spoke about the difficulty of motherhood and life on the campaign trail.
“I love the fact that there are also women out there that don’t have a choice and they must go to work and they still have to raise the kids,” Mrs. Romney said. “Thank goodness that we value those people too. And sometimes life isn’t easy for any of us.”
That’s just mah-velous Ann!
Mrs. Romney was apparently trying to express empathy for women who don’t have the option to stay at home. But her choice of words (including “those people” and “us”) could lead to a new round of charges that the wealthy Romneys don’t understand average Americans. What do you think?
