Today’s installment of campaign-related news items that won’t necessarily generate a post of their own, but may be of interest to political observers:
* The latest USA Today/Gallup poll shows President Obama narrowly leading Mitt Romney in the 12 most competitive battleground states, 47% to 44%.
* The latest Monmouth University Poll, meanwhile, shows Obama leading Romney nationally by just one point, 46% to 45%.
* In an ad produced before Todd Akin’s controversy, the Obama campaign is again hitting Romney/Ryan on women’s health and reproductive rights.
* If Akin were dropping out, he probably wouldn’t be buying ad time for the rest of the week.
* On a related note, while PPP found Akin still leading Sen. Claire McCaskill (D) in Missouri, SurveyUSA found that a majority of voters in the state believe Akin should drop out.
