Today’s installment of campaign-related news items that won’t necessarily generate a post of their own, but may be of interest to political observers:
* With Rick Santorum releasing four years of tax returns, won’t Mitt Romney feel a little more pressure to release more than one year? (via Tricia)
* In Michigan, which is quickly becoming an extremely important Republican presidential primary, a new Detroit News poll shows Santorum with a four-point lead over Romney, 34% to 30%.
* A pro-Santorum super PAC hopes to keep the momentum going in the Wolverine State, reserving nearly $700,000 in television time for commercials that are set to begin running tomorrow.
* Romney, meanwhile, is not only outspending Santorum in Michigan by a 29-to-1 ratio, he’s also picked up the support of Gov. Rick Snyder (R).
* A new CNN poll shows President Obama’s approval rating up to 50%. He leads each of his Republican challengers in hypothetical match-ups, though Mitt Romney, who trails Obama by five, comes closest. * On a similar note, a new Fox News poll asked respondents in 10 battleground states — Colorado, Florida, Iowa, Nevada, New Mexico, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Virginia and Wisconsin — and found the president ahead, with Romney trailing Obama by eight. * And while there are no members of the Kennedy family currently serving in Congress, that may soon change. Joseph P. Kennedy III (D), a grandson of Robert F. Kennedy, is launching his campaign today in the Massachusetts district currently represented by Rep. Barney Frank (D).
