Today’s installment of campaign-related news items from across the country.
* Steering clear of a logistical disaster, the Wisconsin Supreme Court narrowly agreed yesterday to keep the Green Party off the state’s 2020 presidential ballot.
* Donald Trump insisted on Fox News this morning that Nevada Gov. Steve Sisolak (D) will “be in charge of the ballots” in the fall, and the governor “will cheat.” In reality, Nevada’s Republican secretary of State oversees the state’s election process.
* Scientific American has been publishing for 175 years, and in that time, the magazine has literally never endorsed a presidential candidate from either party. Today, Scientific American endorsed Joe Biden.
* In March, a Florida Atlantic University poll found Trump with a narrow lead in the Sunshine State; the same poll showed Biden with a narrow lead in May; and now FAU shows the two tied.
* Today is Primary Day in Delaware, home to the last primary before the November elections. Among the notable contests is Sen. Chris Coons (D) facing a Senate challenge from the left.
* The University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School has concluded that Biden’s economic agenda would produce better results than Trump’s agenda. This is notable in part because Trump is a graduate of the Wharton School. * It still seems hard to believe Texas is seriously in play at the presidential level this year, but Biden’s operation continues to add staff in the Lone Star State, suggesting the campaign’s internal polling sees a possible opportunity. * Gary Cohn spent over a year as the director of the National Economic Council in Trump’s White House. Asked if he intends to support the president’s re-election, Cohn said this week he hasn’t yet decided. * And as Rachel noted on the show last night, Kanye West’s presidential campaign has apparently succeeded in making the ballot in Iowa, thanks to Republican operatives hoping to use the entertainer to keep Trump in power.
