Today’s installment of campaign-related news items from across the country.
* Joe Biden spoke at a metal works plant in Dunmore, Pennsylvania, yesterday, where the presumptive Democratic nominee made the case to a socially distanced audience that Donald Trump is “exactly the wrong person to lead us at this moment.”
* The day after local officials in Houston canceled the upcoming Texas Republican Party state convention, GOP officials went to court to reverse the decision. Late yesterday, a Harris County judge denied the party’s request for a court order that would’ve allowed the original schedule to proceed.
* As part of his offensive against mail-in voting, the president this morning condemned postal balloting as “a formula for RIGGING an election.” Apparently eager to undermine public confidence in his own country’s electoral system, Trump added, “Rigged Election!!! 20% fraudulent ballots?”
* In related news, CNN reported this week that the Republican National Committee did a robocall in April — voiced by presidential daughter-in-law Lara Trump — which said voting by mail could be done “safely and securely.”
