First lady Michelle Obama has enlisted football star Richard Sherman to help promote her “Let’s Move” campaign.
Sherman already thinks he’s the greatest cornerback in the NFL, and now he’s bragging about his cooking skills in the White House kitchen.
“We the best chefs in the game,” the Seahawks star exclaims in the new video released Thursday, spoofing the widely publicized sideline interview Sherman did with sports reporter Erin Andrews.
Sherman made headlines in January for his aggressive declaration that he was “the best one in the game” after defeating the San Francisco 49ers. The interview quickly raised his national profile and spawned a debate over the use of the phrase “thug” as some critics took issue with Sherman’s defiant demeanor.
President Obama offered praise for Sherman during the Seattle Seahawks’ team visit to the White House last week, describing his tough childhood in Compton amid “gangs and drugs and guns” and explaining how Sherman persevered to graduate at the top of his class before heading off to play football for Stanford University. The Seahawks won the Super Bowl earlier this year.
“If he seems a little brash, it’s because you’ve got to have attitude sometimes if you are going to overcome some of this adversity,” Obama said of Sherman.
Sherman proved willing to poke fun at himself in the “Let’s Move” video, letting the first lady play the role of sideline reporter, asking how Sherman and his fellow Seahawks sous-chefs made such a delicious and healthy meal.
