Sarah Palin says Hillary Clinton might “open her eyes” on abortion thanks to Chelsea Clinton’s pregnancy, which she expects will “broaden her world view.”
“She, just knowing that her daughter Chelsea is pregnant with a baby — it’s a real baby!” the Tea Party firebrand and former vice presidential candidate told Extra host Mario Lopez in an interview.
Parents and grandparents “realize that sanctity of life, how innocent and how precious it is, and of all places it should be in the womb where these babies should be protected, so maybe even on a social issue like that she’ll open her eyes,” Palin said.
Palin also said being a grandmother might focus her attentions on the debt, too.
“I think anyone who is a grandparent really starts looking further down the road. We start thinking about things like $17 trillion dollar debt that our nation is under and what we’re going to hand that to our grandkids for them to pay off,” she said. “That’s not fair to our grandkids. Hopefully, she’ll start thinking along those terms, too.”
Hillary Clinton is a much-speculated 2016 candidate; she’d been leading in the polls against the entire Republican field. Lopez queried whether Palin, who resigned from her role as governor of Alaska and later pursued a reality television show, will run for the presidency in 2016. “It would be some time down the road” before she’d decide that, Palin said. “A lot can happen, especially in politics.” Correction: An earlier version of this article stated that Palin resigned during her second term; she resigned during her first.
