A new national poll shows retired neurosurgeon Ben Carson surging among Republican primary voters, running nearly even with GOP front-runner Donald Trump.
The new poll from CBS News and The New York Times shows that Carson’s support has risen from just 6% last month to 23% now. Trump still leads the pack at 27%, while no other candidate receives double-digit backing.
Carson’s rise has come amid a significant slide for two other Republicans: former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush and Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker.

Bush, who garnered 13% of GOP primary voters in the same poll last month, is down to 6%. Walker has slid from 10% support to just 2% in the new poll.
Tied for third place with Bush at 6% are former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee and Florida Sen. Marco Rubio. Texas Sen. Ted Cruz gets 5%; former HP chief Carly Fiorina has 4% support; and Ohio Gov. John Kasich and Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul each get the backing of 3% of GOP primary voters. All other candidates received less than 3% support.
