Comedian Larry Wilmore, host of Comedy Central’s “The Nightly Show,” will host the White House Correspondents’ Association annual dinner on April 30. The dinner will be Obama’s last with the press corps before he leaves office.
Carol Lee, a reporter for The Wall Street Journal and president of the association, made the announcement Wednesday.
“Larry’s edgy, even provocative, brand of humor means he’s certainly up to the task of skewering politicians of all ideological stripes, and we don’t expect the nation’s news media to escape unscathed, either,” Lee said in a statement. “We are thrilled that Larry has accepted our invitation to be the featured comedian at our annual dinner, which will be the last during the Obama White House.”

Moments after the announcement, Wilmore tweeted that he is “beyond excited” to host the dinner. The dinner is traditionally attended by the president and the first lady, celebrities, prominent journalists and members of the White House press corps. Proceeds are used to fund scholarships for aspiring journalists. Wilmore now joins a group of renowned comedians and entertainers who have headlined the event, including Seth Meyers, Wanda Sykes, Jay Leno, Jimmy Kimmel, and Cecily Strong.
