Four top officials at the United States Secret Service are being dismissed from their posts, NBC News confirmed Wednesday.
The Washington Post first reported the shakeup, which comes after much scrutiny following lapses in security in the agency that protects the president and his family.
Secret Service sources tell NBC News that Acting Director Joseph Clancy has told the four top level officials they will be removed from their current positions. No timeline has been announced.
Each is a veteran employee with more than 30 years of service.
They are: Dale Pupillo, of protective operations; Paul Morrissey, USSS investigative mission; Jane Murphy, governmental and public affairs; and Mark Copanzzi, technology and the tools for mission support.
Sources say this may not be the end of an agency reorganization that follows a series of security lapses and misconduct in recent years. The Secret Service was the subject of congressional hearings and public criticism after a series of security problems, including an incident last year when a man wielding a knife jumped the White House fence and breached the building.
