CAN GOOGLE FIND THE CURE FOR AUTISM?: Google and Autism Speaks, a leading nonprofit, have teamed up to build the world’s largest database—searchable, sortable and shareable—of genetic information from autistic patients and their families. By storing the complete genomes of 10,000 people affected by the disease, the Autism Speaks 10,0000 Genome Project (AUT10K) hopes to isolate the causes of the disease and find genetic targets for new treatments. GMO LABELING GOES TO VOTERS IN COLORADO, OREGON: Voters in Colorado and Oregon on Tuesday defeated measures that would have required labeling food products that contain GMOs. Vermont has labeling in place that was approved by the state legislature but it’s being challenged in court. Despite the defeats on Tuesday, the battle over GMOs continues. Read more
