A staffer in Chris Christie’s office, Christina Genovese Renna, quit on Friday, the same day that a former Port Authority official publicly announced that he has evidence that proved the governor’s involvement in the ‘Bridgegate’ scandal.
Renna is one of 17 staffers in Christie’s office who has been subpoenaed by the state legislature investigating the lane closures that caused a massive traffic jam in Fort Lee, N.J., as political retribution.
In her statement, Renna indicated her decision to leave was unrelated to the scandal.
“This reflects a decision I have been considering since shortly after the election. I have spent almost four years working hard for a Governor I continue to respect and admire,” she said, according to her lawyer who released the statement. “The transition from term one to term two is a natural time to pursue an opportunity in the private sector.”
Renna reported directly to Deputy Chief of Staff Bridget Kelly, the first staffer Christie fired in the wake of the scandal. Kelly was the author of the infamous email directing the Port Authority that it was “time for some traffic problems in Fort Lee.” The scandal has eroded the New Jersey governor’s high approval ratings, reputation as a 2016 contender, and subject him to state and federal inquiries.
