With Mitt Romney officially out of the running for the 2016 Republican nomination, the rest of the potential GOP field is regrouping and looking for a candidate to emerge as the next nominee.
Romney’s exit is likely to make the path to nomination a little smoother for an establishment candidate–no longer solely divided between Mitt Romney, Jeb Bush, and Chris Christie.
On Monday’s Rundown, Sam Seder, host of The Majority Report, said Romney’s decision could have a ripple effect on the GOP field. “I think there’s a slight chance that it could end up shortening the time table of the Republican primary,” Seder said.
As the party awaits official campaigns to begin, speculation continues to place former Florida governor Jeb Bush among the top of the list of contenders, according to Dave Catanese of U.S. News & World Report.
“[Bush] appeals to the more moderate establishment portions of the party,” Catanese said on msnbc Monday.
Catanese also places Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker, Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul, and New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie at the top of the GOP’s list. Watch the full conversation in the video player above.
