Some are calling her the “smartest Girl Scout in America.” That’s after one teenager in California came up with the idea to sell cookies outside a marijuana dispensary.
Danielle Lei’s marketing plan worked brilliantly. The 13-year-old sold 117 boxes in two hours outside The Green Cross–almost a box of cookies a minute. The dispensary said the girl’s mother called for permission to set up outside, and the Green Cross welcomed Danielle with open arms.
“It’s no secret that cannabis is an appetite stimulant–so it’s not shocking that a lot of our patients came and purchased cannabis, and then saw the cookies and purchased them,” Holli Bert, a spokesperson for The Green Cross told NBC San Diego. “But it wasn’t just patients, staff members and neighbors also bought the cookies. I personally bought five boxes. It turned out to be a big success.”
The girl’s success has raised a few eyebrows across the country. The Girl Scouts of Colorado tweeted out their disapproval: “If you are wondering, we don’t allow our Girl Scouts to sell cookies in front of marijuana shops or liquor stores/bars.” Whether or not you approve of Lei’s plan to move cookies, you have to admit the girl caught onto one business lesson quickly: it’s all about location, location, location.
