UPDATE: A Vietnam veteran facing eviction following foreclosure on his house (who appeared live on The Ed Show on Dec. 6, 2011) will be allowed to stay in his home.
Bobby Hull and supporters from Occupy Homes and Minnesota Neighborhoods Organizing for Change gathered outside his south Minneapolis home today to announce that his lender, Bank of America, has agreed to renegotiate his mortgage so that he and his family can keep their home.
“This means the world to me and my family, but we aren’t satisfied yet,” Hull said. “We won’t stop until all Americans across the country get the same deal that I did.”
Hull has lived in his south Minneapolis home since 1968. He purchased it from his mother in 1971.
After serious health problems in 2009, Hull’s contracting business suffered and he fell behind in his payments. By November 2011, his house had been sold in foreclosure and had begun to pack. But by early December, he had joined forces with NOC and Occupy Homes and appeared live on The Ed Show to demand that the lenders involved in his foreclosure negotiate a fair solution that would allow him to stay. Finally on Feb. 20, 2012, three days after the end of the redemption period, Bank of America called Bobby and eventually he, his supporters and the lender agreed on an undisclosed loan modification that will allow him to make affordable mortgage payments and keep his family in their home and the community.
