Five years ago today, Prince William said “I do” to Kate Middleton. For millions around the world, it was a wedding that acknowledged that fairy tales aren’t just things for story books — they’re attainable in real life, too. Although a commoner by birth, Middleton, looked as though she had been royal her whole life from the second she stepped out of a Rolls-Royce in a fit-for-a-queen strapless wedding gown made of ivory and white satin gazer. The dress, designed by Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen, is so famous that it has its own Wikipedia page.
But perhaps the most memorable moment of the whole day was when the new Duchess of Cambridge kissed her prince before the thousands gathered outside of the balcony of Buckingham Palace. The first middle-class queen-in-waiting has not only welcomed the world into the royal family, she’s also welcomed Prince George (now two-years-old!) and Princess Charlotte. What’s in store for the happily-married couple in the next five years? If the recent photo of Will and Kate seated on the “Diana bench” outside of the Taj Mahal is any indication, it’s the completion of a decade of unbreakable love.
