Today’s installment of campaign-related news items that won’t necessarily generate a post of their own, but may be of interest to political observers:
* Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell’s (R-Ky.) new campaign video, apparently made to resemble a Michael Bay movie, has to be seen to be believed. The Republican lawmaker who’s spent his career fighting for the rich presents himself as some kind of nouveau-populist, with a pitch that bears no resemblance to his lengthy congressional career. (If the video style seems familiar, Tim Pawlenty used it to ridiculous effect two years ago.)
* A week after Sen. Kelly Ayotte (R) voted to kill expanded background checks, PPP finds her approval rating dropping to 44%. Half of voters in the state say Ayotte’s vote will make them less likely to support her in a future election, but she isn’t up until 2016.
* Speaking of New Hampshire, Gov. Maggie Hassan (D) appears to be faring quite well, and looking ahead to her re-election, PPP finds her with big leads over five potential Republican challengers in 2014.
