On Friday, the Central Intelligence Agency announced that they are entering the world of social media by inaugurating @CIA on Twitter and Facebook.
We can neither confirm nor deny that this is our first tweet.

According to a press release by the CIA, the agency will use the social media platform to post the “latest news, statements, and career information,” and not for the witty sarcasm that many use Twitter for.
To help minimize the Twitter banter, earlier this week the agency began looking for a software system that could analyze social media data for “sarcasm and false positives.” “Our objective it to automate our social media monitoring process. Twitter is what we analyze,” Ed Donovan, a spokesman for the Secret Service, told The Washington Post. “This is real time stream analysis . The ability to detect sarcasm and false positives is just one of 16 or 18 things we are looking at. We are looking for the ability to quantity our social media outreach.” Yet, @CIA’s first tweet does seem to fall in line with the current Twitter banter–a coincidence?
