- Bernie Sanders, the Democratic presidential nominee who has garnered mammoth crowds at campaign events, took the lead in a poll for the first time. In a Franklin Pierce University/Boston Herald poll that surveyed likely Democratic voters in the New Hampshire primary, Sanders is beating Hillary Clinton with 44% favorability rate, as compared to Clinton’s 37%. However, supporters of Bernie might not be so optimistic. Only 11% believe that Sanders will most likely be the Democratic nominee, whereas 65% believe it will be Clinton.
- Hillary Clinton’s campaign announced Wednesday that they will turn her private email server — the one she used during her time as secretary of state — over to the Justice Department. With the server, the Justice Department will be able to assess whether any emails were destroyed and precisely what correspondence Clinton has turned over. In recent months, Clinton’s attorney said there was no basis for a third-party review.
- Known as the “Oath Keepers,” a small militia of citizens armed with semi-automatic assault rifles started roaming the streets of Ferguson on Monday, after the gun violence shattered peaceful protests on Sunday night. Protesters reacted immediately and fiercely, yelling at the Oath Keepers and saying that “only a white man can get away with this.”
- Jeb Bush launched more attacks against Democratic front-runner Hillary Clinton in a speech on Tuesday. His strong rhetoric comes after heated exchanges with Clinton on Twitter, as well as complaints that he was not responding well to his Democratic rival’s critiques. His speech focused on her tenure as secretary of state, questioning whether America is safer since Clinton took office.
- Current Republican front-runner Donald Trump is known for his fiery criticisms of public figures. Just when his public animus for Megyn Kelly, Fox News anchor and moderator of last week’s GOP debate, started fading, a new nemesis appeared — Erick Erickson. The latest feud started when Erickson disinvited Trump to a RedState gathering over controversial comments he made about Kelly. Since then, Trump has called Erickson a “loser” and, through a campaign spokesperson, a “weak and pathetic leader.”
