On Wednesday, prosecutor Joseph Deters announced that a grand jury indicted University of Cincinnati police officer Ray Tensing on murder charges for the fatal shooting of Samuel DuBose on July 19. DeBose, an unarmed black man, had been been pulled over by the white officer because his car was missing a front license plate. Body cam video showed the officer in what the prosecutor described as “a senseless, asinine shooting.”

As people learned of the news and began watching the body cam footage, many online expressed sadness over DuBose’s death and shared condolences for his family. Others also praised Deters for his bold choice of words and his swift response amid the tragedy. Still, there are also those who say there is just one small step on the road to social and racial justice and equality.
