After 874 shows over three years and some change — all hosted at an ungodly time of 5:30 a.m. — Willie Geist is saying goodbye to Way Too Early and saying hello to a studio with some windows across the street over at the TODAY Show.
Willie hosted his last show today on Nov. 9, 2012, and he was kind enough to do a quick Q&A with me on how it feels bidding adieu, the prospect of a good night’s rest and coping advice for diehard WTE fans.
How did it feel hosting this last show today?
It was bittersweet. Kind of like dropping my daughter off at kindergarten this fall – excited for the future, but nostalgic about the change.
What advice do you have for your audience as they cope with losing you?
Sleep until 6 a.m. now. You’ll never even notice I left.
How much sleep do you plan on getting tonight?
I wish I could make up the sleep lost over the last five years in one night, but I have a 3-year-old who likes to practice his elbow-drop on my head at 6 a.m. on the weekends. No such thing as sleeping in.
